Book Buddy
The Friends of the Villages Library partnered with the Belvedere and Pinellas branches of the Sumter County libraries and 2 local motels to provide a carousel of free books for temporary residents. This will continue to be replenished with children and adult books, as well as DVDs, from the items that have been donated to the FOVL.

Tablet Donation
From The Daily Sun, Sunday, September 6:
"Today, thanks to the support of the Friends of the Villages (FOVL), three locations in the Sumter County Library System are offering the latest technology."
We donated four new Launchpad Quest tables to the library system. The tablets are loaded with more than 150 games that teach subjects such as math and reading. They are not connected to the internet and have a 30-minute time limit.

Tech Trek is a week-long STEM-focused residential camp for girls going into the 8th grade. Hosted by AAUW-Florida, the camp is held on a university campus; it is designed to develop interest and excitement about STEM fields as well as self-confidence in young women.
Campers are nominated by teachers and AAUW branches to attend. The university campus experience gives girls a chance to think about the kinds of opportunities a college education can afford them. Hands-on instruction and field trips encourage maximum interaction and instruction in environments where STEM professionals work.
